After the kids' (early) naps this afternoon, we took them to a children's concert featuring They Might Be Giants. For months now, Eli has been a big fan of their podcasts, which included little 'videos' for their kid-friendly songs. The videos had puppets, cartoons, and band members, which totally keep his attention, and they're only a few minutes each (one or two short songs' worth), so he's only in front of the screen for a short time. 
Of course he wore a blank stare the entire concert (even though minutes before, in the car, he was singing along with all of his favorite songs). Maddux did pretty well, especially considering each kid had a shortened nap so we could make the 3PM show.If you have iTunes, check out the free TMBG podcast. Each Friday night they put out a new 'video' with one or two of their songs. If you don't have iTunes, and you don't feel like joining the rest of the world, click here to see a small sampling of the latest videos. If you're not interested in the video, at least have a listen to their kids' music: it's stuff you'll find yourself singing even after your kids go to bed...

WE love they might be giants. Mike has their CD's from before they switched to kids music. I was amazed when I saw they did a lot of the Playhouse Disney songs. Carter loves the "I can add song, and all the number songs escecially "Zero". I am so jealous and would love to take Carter to one of their concerts. I hope they make there way out to NY.

TMBG's family concert Saturday at Variety Playhouse was my son Dan's first concert-going experience (my brithday present for him - he just turned 8). We had a blast and we didn't even mind walking 2 blocks to the truck in the rain afterwards. Plus, Homestar Runner made an appearance as well. What more could one ask for?
I have read your site for a while, but this is the first time I have commented. Thanks for the tip on TMBG. Our son sees their videos on Disney. FYI, they are free podcasts on Zune from Microsoft too.
I've never heard TMBG except for their theme song for "Malcolm in the Middle" which I do like so I'll have to check it out.
